Friday, 18 August, 2006. 12:08:29 PMFinally some
common sense about the recent terror scares.
Wednesday, 16 August, 2006. 03:11:42 PMI have a new Seagate 320G hard drive and external drive enclosure
ordered from Newegg. The 80g in my desktop machine is going into the
external enclosure, and the new drive is going into my main desktop
computer.
Wednesday, 16 August, 2006. 06:43:40 AMThe implementation of the no-liquids policy at airports is stupid. If
you take liquids to the security line, they make you discard them in
a trash can. Seems like these binary explosives which are causing
the current panic could easily mix in the trash can. There's large
numbers of people standing around in the security lines, and plenty of
glass containers in the trash which would produce a lot of fast-moving
debris. We don't have a system of security, we have a system for
bothering people.
Monday, 14 August, 2006. 08:39:20 PMMy blocklist implementation seems to have cut the spam reaching my server
by about half. I get about 4500 spam messages a day now.
Wednesday, 09 August, 2006. 11:45:08 AMJoe Lieberman is still going on and on about how his server was hacked.
If his site really was hacked, then the other 70+ sites which share
the same server as his would also have gone down. The error message
probably would have said something other than to contact the
billing department. In truth, Lieberman was so cheap that he picked
a tiny hosting plan, and when he ran out of bandwidth because of the
predicatably heavy election day traffic, the hosting company
suspended his account. What an idiot.
Friday, 04 August, 2006. 01:06:09 PMRepublicans are spending the money over there so they don't have to spend
the money over here.
Wednesday, 02 August, 2006. 01:36:44 PMI've implemented an experimental blocklist which just blocks IP
addresses from which I have received spam. Limited tests show that
it will block perhaps 20% of my spam at the most. I have another blocklist
which may boost that by another 20%.
Tuesday, 01 August, 2006. 10:24:31 PMI received more that 190,000 spam messages at the pdrap.org domain last
month. The percentage of false negatives is very very low, but I'm still
getting quite a number of spams through. The sheer number of spam messages
that I receive is starting to degrade my DSL connection which runs at
about 1.1 megabits per second. I'm going to implement a blocklist
solution to drop the connections from spam IP's immediately.
