CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - NASA plans to fly the space shuttle Discovery in July without further changes to the external fuel tank, despite some engineers' concerns that the tank needs more work, officials said on Friday.

I talked with John Scurlock at First Texas Honda and confirmed that none of my customer information was changed in their computers. I also confirmed that the people at @utoRevenue.com sold them a service where they automatically try to match their customer list to "opt-in" e-mail addresses. Of course, this isn't really possible for an agent outside of First Texas Honda to do, since opt-in works only for a single agreement at a time. For example, if I gave one company permission to send me e-mail, and @utoRevenue matches my e-mail address to First Texas Honda's customer list, that doesn't mean that First Texas Honda has permission to send me e-mail. The Honda dealer would have to ask me for permission separately, and I would give them permission separately.

I think that the service offered by @utoRevenue is therefore something which cannot be delivered in practice. It's also very suspicious that @utoRevenue.com matched an address that was provided as a test to www.digitalcamera4free.com. That means that @utoRevenue is buying spammer lists, or at least not checking the source of their lists very closely.

Check the address that the included e-mail was sent to: digitalcamera4freecom@pdrap.org. I provided that addess to a single website, www.digitalcamera4free.com, over a year ago, as a spam test to see how far that address would get.

I don't appreciate you doing business with a company that purchases mailing lists compiled by spam e-mailers and then sending me spam.

I have other e-mail addresses that I use for legitimate business, and I'm concerned that you didn't use one of those. I am concerned that you've changed my other information based on the spammer's mailing list. For example, I didn't provide my true mailing address to the digitalcamera4free.com website. Did you change my address in your own database? It certainly appears that you've re-added a Honda del Sol that I no longer own, but you don't seem to know about the Honda Civic EX that I currently own. I've been bringing that Civic EX to your dealership for 7 years!

By the way, this entire spam incident is being documented on my own website. I also telephoned you regarding this e-mail, left my phone number, and asked that your dealership call me back. The person I left a mesage for was John Scurlock, and he has completely ignored me. I am a customer of your dealership, and I think I deserve a response.

Please call me on my cell phone at 512-461-1986 so I can confirm that you haven't changed my personal information on your computers. I already know that you have re-added the information on the Honda del Sol which I no longer own (referenced in the e-mail below.)

If it seems to you that I'm overreacting to a simple e-mail, let me assure you that I am not. I receive over 70,000 spam e-mails to my domain every month. Think about how tired my delete finger must be getting, having to delete a spam roughly every 30 seconds, 24 hours a day, 265 days a year. Furthermore, I think that it reflects very poorly on your dealership to send e-mails to addresses which could only have been acquired from spammers.

I am looking forward to your call.

Gary Coen from First Texas Honda sent me a second spam mail. It arrived at the same spam-trap address that the other e-mail arrived at. So far, First Texas Honda has been completely unresponsive regarding my inquiries about their spam campaign, and they haven't addressed my concerns regarding the vehicle information change which they made without my permission. I'm going to try again, and copy the e-mail they sent to as many people at the dealership as I can find.

Just sent this to Senator Hutchison. When I get a response, I'll put that up.

In 1993, you said "I believe our founding fathers were right in maintaining that we should have citizen legisla-tors, people who work for a living, who live with the taxes, who live with the mandates, who go to Washington and do service and come back to live with the laws that they passed." You said that you would limit yourself to two terms as a senator.

Even after you were first elected, you still held this position. The Austin American Statesman wrote that you said "I've always said that I would serve no more than two full terms. This may be my last term or I could run for one more. But no more after that. I firmly believe in term limitations and I plan to adhere to that."

So Senator Hutchison, why are you running for a third term? I eagerly await your answer.

Sincerely,

Patrick Draper

The big news of the past week is that the criminals in the White House are pushing hard for war with Iran, which is supposedly developing nuclear weapons. If we had Valerie Plame and the rest of the CIA network which was compromised and rolled up when her name was leaked by President Bush, we'd know more about the situation on the ground. The weapons labs are supposedly buried deep underground in about 50 locations throughout Iran, and cannot be successfully destroyed without resorting to nuclear bunker busters. The White House has made plans to use nuclear weapons in the upcoming war with Iran. It has been reported that Pentagon objections to using nuclear weapons have been shouted down during meetings with White House officials, presumably Rice and Rumsfeld doing the shouting. Pentagon Generals say that the people in the White House think of bunker busters and think of underground nuclear tests which are contained wholly underground. They don't realize that bunker busters are typically not contained, as it requires about 600 feet of solid rock to accomplish that. Instead, vast amounts of dirt and rock are vaporized near the surface, the fireball develops in the atmosphere, a mushroom cloud is formed and rises to tens of thousands of feet in altitude, tons of radioactive fallout drifts for hundreds of miles, and a crater half a mile wide is left behind.

Just for the record, I'm opposed to this. I think that a nuclear first strike is immoral. I think that it could create a situation that could easily escalate out of control, and it may not end until Russia and China are involved, perhaps with nuclear weapons of their own. Some of those weapons might be directed towards the United States. Too many thousands of innocent people will be killed by radioactive fallout. Thousands or millions of acres will be poisoned by fallout for decades. Yes, I am absolutely opposed to a nuclear attack on Iran.

How do I know all of this information? It's been leaked to major newspapers. Who's leaking it? Sources in the Pentagon. Why is the Pentagon leaking information which exposes the plans of the President? Because we have a situation in our government which is forcing the military to take action against the President. Right now the action is small, but it could get larger. A politicized military is a terrible curse, so this is nothing at all to cheer about. It's a crisis that most people seem oblivious to. If GW Bush gets his way, we could be in worse trouble than the 1962 missile crisis; certainly more danger than I've seen in my lifetime.

Condoleezza Rice says that there have been thousands of tactical errors made, but the strategic decisions were correct. I think that every programmer who has ever heard a manager blame the programmers for the failure of a project will recognize that, and reject it for the bullshit that it is. As far as anybody can tell, the military has done just about as well as they could have, and the errors in this war lie in the assumptions made by the planners right at the top of the administration.

What's the big deal with Plame? Why do we care that Bush authorized the leak? Well, she was an undercover spy charged with keeping tabs on Iran and their nukes. She wasn't a throwaway, her role was extremely important, and Bush's leak of her name basically rolled up our entire spy network in Iran. That's treason in my book, and GW Bush should go to prison for that.

Solution to a problem with JTree. When a child node is added to the root node, the first child will display. Subsequent child nodes added do not display. The solution is to call the function tree.updateUI() after the child has been added. Calling tree.revalidate() does not do the right thing.

Thursday, 06 April, 2006. 01:15:07 PM

Apparently Scooter Libbey has given up the person who authorized the Plame leak. GW Bush. That's a felony, and he should go to prison for that. It was cleared through Cheney, so he's responsible as well.
