There are only 457 references on Google to the word "Zubbles", but it's going to explode in the very near future. Zubbles are a new toy, a colored bubble. Just like the clear soap bubbles, except they are colored. The dyes were specially engineered to disappear a few minutes after the bubbles pop. www.zubbles.com

I'm in Chicago now. Flew home from Sean's wedding and back out again this morning. I'll probably have a couple weeks up here, then finish the project in Austin.

My friend Sean is getting married in MI on Sunday, so we're flying up to Michigan for the wedding.

I'm trying to make a Java Swing program that loads large amounts of text into a text control. The size of the text is unbounded, and could be very large, even up to a terabyte or more. Obviously, all of this text won't fit into memory, and it would be incorrect to try to load all of it at once. The Java Swing text components contain all of their text in memory at once. I want to have a text control that is connected to a file which does lazy loading, only loading the parts of the text on the screen at one time.

I've tried a number of approaches involving custom Document interface implementations, but they are really complicated, and they don't work. My latest idea is to try to intercept scroll events from a scrollbar to change the text in a document dynamically.

Some legal eagles have pointed out that two men getting married is NOT similar to the definition of marriage that was introduced into the Texas constitution last night. Therefore, the morons in every Texas county except for Travis county unwittingly made gay marriage constitutional, but non-gay marriage unconstitutional. Weddings are going to get a lot more fabulous in Texas.

One more thing: As of today, I am no longer married. Alexandra and I ended our marriage, through no choice of our own. You see, the anti-gay ammendment passed yesterday defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman, and then said anything identical to that would not be recognized. Here's the exact wording:
H.J.R. No. 6

A JOINT RESOLUTION proposing a constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:

SECTION 1. Article I, Texas Constitution, is amended by adding Section 32 to read as follows:

Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.
So it turns out that it's not just Alex and me that that are single today, but NOBODY in Texas is married.

The gay discriminiation referendum in Maine failed, so kudos to Maine. The children who are adopted by gay parents in Maine will benefit by being able to get their parent's health insurance, inherit their parent's wealth, and from all of the other legal benefits that kids with married parents enjoy.

Texas approved a ban on gay marriage in the Tuesday election. Travis county was the only one to vote against the proposition, to our credit. SHAME on Texas for discriminating against consenting adults, and for hurting the children of homosexuals. Those kids can be adopted by gay couples, but they are prohibited from benefitting from normal custody, tax, inheritance, medical, and life insurance benefits. In 20 years, demographics are going to shift, and this law is going to stick out like a sore thumb. It's in the same category as the old segregation laws were in; only the group of people sent to the back of the bus is different.

Bombardier is halting production of the 50 seat CRJ-200. High fuel prices make the larger 70 seat CRJ-700 a better option. Unfortunately for Bombardier, Embraer in Brazil has a better 70 seat RJ (the ERJ-170), and are likely to take most of the market from Bombardier.
