The last hardware for my new machine arrived today: an NVidia 6600 video card, and DVD/CD-R/CD-RW drive, and a mouse. Now I have some games ordered: X-Plane 8, Far Cry, Doom 3, and a Half-Life combo pack.

I went to the courthouse yesterday and today to perform my jury duty. I was called for duty almost 10 years ago, but I was working in the Netherlands at the time, so I was excused. I was hoping that I would see a trial this time around, but it didn't happen. The two parties waived their right to a jury trial, and all of us were excused before ever hearing any of the case. So, it turned out that the most interesting part of the past two days was the bus ride downtown. I'd never ridden Austin's public transit bus system before. It's the cleanest bus system I've ever used, and there's an express bus that goes from the Park and Ride near my house to the downtown library in 20 minutes. IBM is only 10 minutes away from me, but if I worked downtown, I'd definitely take the bus to work every day which would let me read books instead of battling the traffic.

I placed an order for new computer parts. I'm building an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ system with 1 gig of RAM, and 160G hard disk space. This machine is going to run Windows, because it'll be a game machine.

I went to 88 China for the last time tonight. I'm going to miss that place. On re-evaluation, I think there is cream cheese in the crab rangoon, but there's something else too, a little like custard. I don't know if I'll be able to find any like them in Austin.

I freshened up the look of my website. The old style was looking a little stale, and the Google ads weren't well placed. Since I use CSS to lay out the page, it was a pretty simple thing to do. None of the html for the pages had to change.

My project here in O'Fallon, Missouri is coming to an end this Friday. While I am on the road travelling, I don't have a kitchen to cook my dinner, so I eat out every night. My favorite place to eat here is a Chinese restaurant called "88 China" located at 1326 Sunburst Drive, O'Fallon, MO 636-272-8855 and 8856. I tried a few of the items on their menu, and all were terrific. My favorite is their pineapple chicken special, which includes fried rice and two crab rangoons for $7. The portion is easily big enough to feed two people, but I can manage to eat all of it myself. The crab rangoons are particularly good. Actually, they are better than any I've ever had. The filling is rather sweet and appears to be based on something other than cream cheese. I went there last night, and will be going there for the last time tomorrow night. If I ever find myself driving on I-70 between St. Louis and Kansas City, I'll definitely make plans for a detour to this terrific restaurant.

On AIX, commands can fail if the total size of the arguments is too long. The default is 12 4K pages.

lsattr -El sys0 will tell you how much memory is reserved for arguments and the environment variables. The space is shared between the two. changes take effect immediately however.

chdev -l sys0 -a ncargs=n will change that limit.

smitty can also change this parameter.

I was listening to the music of the legendary punk rock band "The Germs", and looking at websites about the band. I discovered that Belinda Carlisle who is famous as the lead singer of the Go-Go's was the drummer for the Germs for short time.

Two weeks left on the project in St. Louis. No idea where I am going next, but I hope I'm going to be in staying Austin for a while.
