Forgot to mention another way my flashcard is different: it randomly reverses the questions and the answers. This makes it useful for learning vocabulary from both the side of remembering the definition of a new word, and remembering the new word from the definition.

I finished my flashcard program. It's a Python script that is triggered by a crontab every 10 minutes, and question/answer pairs are read from a PostgreSQL database. This flashcard program is different than others in that it doesn't require an answer to be typed into a box. Instead it has 4 buttons: Know, Don't Know, Add, and Edit. When I get a question, I decide if I know the answer or not, and click the button to indicate that. Either button will cause the program to display the answer for 4 seconds, and then terminate. That gives me a chance to read the answer and memorize it. If I want to edit the question, I can click edit, and if I want to add a new question I can click add. If I have many items to add to the database, it has a bulk loader option.

Our new bathroom cabinet arrived this morning. It's solid wood construction on all sides, instead of the particle board cabinet that we used to have.

I go back to work tomorrow, so I'm spending the last day of my vacation grouting the tile in the bathroom. It's a lot of tile, so it won't be done today, but I will be able to get the toilet installed I think. After the grout is done, the new cabinets, glass shower enclosure, and paint are all that remain. Alex is doing the painting.

Started the dishwasher and went to dinner yesterday. When we got back our kitchen and living room were filled with water. All of it stayed on the tile so I cleaned it up with the shop vac. The dishwasher drain attachment on the garbage disposal was corroded completely away, so I installed a new disposal this morning. The old one was a JennAir 1/2HP unit, and the new one is an In-Sink-Erator 3/4HP unit (model 444). I had to install an electrical outlet too, because the old one was direct wired into the circuit, and the electric cord was stretched tight. It was not possible to connect that cord to the new disposal. The whole job took about 4 hours to finish. Now that the electric outlet is there, the next disposal will take only about an hour to install.

We returned from our long vacation to the frozen North today. I was able to finally see what happened to my server. It was a Linux kernel crash, the only one I have had on any of my production machines since I started running Linux in June of 1993. Of course, it happened when I was twelve hundred miles away from the computer and could not hit the reset button.
