I have DRI extensions working on my laptop now. The graphics chip is an ATI Mobile Radeon, which is the same as a Mach64. Not too speedy, but for OpenGL I wanted whatever acceleration I could get. I installed the Debian packages that were available and it works now. The fire demo that comes with Mesa runs at about 12 frames a second. I can't recall how fast it runs on my desktop's NVidia mx400, but it's not nearly as fast.

My parents have been visiting since Saturday night, and they are leaving tomorrow morning. It's been fun having them here, and I hate to see them go. We went up to Saledo on Sunday. There's a lot of little shops there selling upscale merchandise. Alex and I were looking at a clock in one store and Mom bought it for us without us finding out. We got it on Christmas Eve and it's on our mantle now. I gave Alex a robe and a 128 meg USB flash drive so she can move files to and from her office. I'm also going to get her a cooking class at Central Market. Maybe we'll do that together.

I called SBC/Yahoo and ordered their DSL service. They have no notice of disconnect yet, but once they get it my setup should be processed quickly.

Friday, 20 December, 2002. 02:51:13 AM

I've confirmed that my DSL link is now down. My old 56k modem is hooked up to my desktop now. Tomorrow I call to get the new line installed. That should take about a week to complete, then I'll be back.

Friday, 20 December, 2002. 01:15:35 AM

My DSL connection just went down 2 minutes ago. I wonder if that's DirectTV getting around to my request to disconnect? I hope so, because I'll call SBC/Yahoo tomorrow and get hooked up again. I've got all my mail forwarded and the web site redirected to a temporary page on Geocities.

Wednesday, 18 December, 2002. 10:53:14 AM

I've set up my domain to forward all web requests to my Yahoo page, and my mail is being sent to my Yahoo account. During the time that my DSL is disconnected, I'll still be able to use my domain normally. Now, I've got to cancel my DSL line so that SBC/Yahoo can hook up a new one.

Monday, 16 December, 2002. 05:33:16 PM

The DirectTV support line just has a recorded message and no way to contact anyone to cancel service. The DSL service has to be cancelled in order for another company to pick the service up. I think I'm going with SBC/Yahoo DSL, which can give me the same service for $15 a month more money. It's the best deal that I can find.

DirectTVDSL is going out of business. Too bad, their service was excellent, and the price for a static IP was reasonable. I'm going to have to switch to another provider, and will probably have to pay more for a static IP address. And, I might have a couple days downtime while the switch is made.

Someone found my site by doing a search on the words "Boston Terrier Porn". Now that's funny!

Last night I bought a table saw on Sears.com. Model #24820. I'm looking forward to learning how to build all sorts of things.

Lots of updates. I'm going to New York City for a couple days to kick of a project for Lehman Brothers. Their dress code is something out of the 80's - I've got to wear a tie. Oh well, at least most of the project will be done in Austin, though the testing will be done in NYC in January. I'm looking forward to spending more time there.

Last night I had a case of food poisoning. I can't figure out what got me though. It might have been a pork chop, or it might have been a little piece of fudge that someone brought to work. I was up all night in severe distress, and today I felt like I had been beaten up in a dark alley. I'm still not feeling so hot, but I haven't eaten anything today either.

I am trying to figure out how to proceed with my space combat game. I've got a scripting language and virtual machine working quite well now, but technology has changed in the past year. I might be going back to OpenGL since graphics accelerators are better supported under Linux now.

The DNS servers are finally back up. That means I'm getting mail, and my website is back online.

Monday, 09 December, 2002. 08:47:07 PM

The nameservers for my domain have been down for about 18 hours now, and I don't know when they will be back up. I think I'm going to move my domain registration from mydomain.com to something else. The founder of mydomain.com left the company about 2 weeks ago and it's already gone to hell.
