This study investigated biased message processing of political satire in The Colbert Report and the influence of political ideology on perceptions of Stephen Colbert. Results indicate that political ideology influences biased processing of ambiguous political messages and source in late-night comedy. Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert's political ideology. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism. Finally, a post hoc analysis revealed that perceptions of Colbert's political opinions fully mediated the relationship between political ideology and individual-level opinion. /n

Dear President Obama,

I just wrote you yesterday to urge you to open investigations into torture and prosecute those who have shamed our country with their crimes.

I'm still thinking that's a good idea. Sorry for the informal tone, but it's late and I want to keep it short.

Could you ask your attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor? I know you're busy and I would suggest that a special prosecutor would be an excellent way to get the job done without having to spend all your time on it.

Thanks,

Patrick /n

Tomatoes went in the pots last weekend, and the dogs got to one of them yesterday. I need to protect them with a little dog barrier of some type. /n

I spend a lot of time on conference calls discussing the progress and details of the writing of technical documents. This is an activity referred to as "word-smithing." Richard Feynman referred to it, more accurately I think, as "tombstone engraving." /n

There are no files available containing the full text of "The Coal Question" by William Stanley Jevons in a single file. There are html web documents containing each chapter on a separate page. This is unsuitable for an ebook reader such as the Amazon Kindle. /n
